Join the BANGOR CLIMATHON 2018

One of 100 similar events around the world

Date: 26th October 2018

Time: 9.30 – 19.00 (drop in or stay all day)

Where: Pontio, Bangor

Who is it for? individuals, students, community groups, entrepreneurs, businesses, innovators, policy makers….. anybody/everyone who has an interest in doing something practical about climate change.

Why should you consider coming along? The question isn’t whether climate change is something we ‘believe’ in or not, the question is, do we understand what’s happening with the climate and how any changes will impact Bangor City and the people of Gwynedd, Ynys Môn and beyond?

If, like us, you would prefer to try to do something about the future rather than ignore the facts or feel helpless, then this is the event for you

What will the day be like?

We will be taking over Pontio from top to bottom with activities:

In the ‘WHITE BOX’ on the second floor, experience and contribute to a Creative Interpretation of Climate Change challenge. Collaborate on creating an ‘installation’ with poet Martin Daws

In Undeb’s ‘Room of Requirement’ back to back Climathon Slams will take place. There will be a series of motivational talks and discussion sessions throughout the day.

Do you have a topic? Would you like a Slam slot?

And on the fifth floor in the Co-working Space –

The Dӧtïӧ Platform Climathon Challenge

This is not for the faint hearted! We have space for up to 60 participants entering as individuals or as teams of four or five to set off on a marathon innovation journey lasting from 09.30 – 18.00.

You/your team will be asked to

  • select a climate change related problem
  • work through a facilitated process to develop a feasible, viable, desirable and sustainable solution,
  • pitch this idea to a panel of judges.

There will be prizes.

What will happen to your ideas?

If the idea is good enough individuals/teams will be supported to take them forward with help from partners such as the Dӧtïӧ Platform, TŷGG Co-Working, Big Ideas Wales, Business Wales, B-Enterprising, Be The Spark

OR your ideas will be uploaded to the Climathon.Climate-kic database for others to take forward

Would you like to enter as a participant or as a team?

Register online from 1st September – Eventbrite Sign up

Personal commitments: what I’m going to do; what I’m going to change; who I’m going to collaborate with, to be building solutions.  Are you ready to do this?

And as a grand finale for those still standing:

A ‘Climathon Artistic Installation experience’ in the White box –18.00 – 19.00. This will be a chance to see the creative side of the day, view the installation and hear some of the poetry produced.

What about food?

There will be plenty of opportunity to buy tea, coffee, light refreshments at Copa, Cegin, Gorad, Ffynnon or Teras or bring your own lunch pack. Our cafés are happy to refill your water bottles for free.
